This recent project showcases Maughan Construction’s commitment to quality workmanship, transparency, and customer care. Our client in Stoke-on-Trent wanted to completely transform their home’s exterior with a new, durable driveway that not only looked exceptional but also resolved long-standing structural issues caused by a poorly installed surface from a previous contractor.
From the very first consultation, Ted and the team focused on providing a realistic and honest assessment of the work required. We discussed materials, layout options, drainage, and the project timescale — ensuring the client had full confidence in both the process and the price.
What set this project apart was the condition of the existing driveway, which had hidden defects that needed addressing before any new surface could be laid. Day 1–2 – Site Preparation and Excavation
The first two days were dedicated to excavation and removal of the old driveway materials, including sections that had subsided due to poor drainage. Once cleared, we installed a new compacted hardcore base, ensuring a stable and level foundation for the rest of the build.
Day 3 – Drainage and Ground Repairs
With the base prepared, Ted’s team installed a new drainage system to prevent future water pooling and ensure long-term performance. Minor repairs were also carried out to stabilise surrounding ground levels before paving began.
Day 4–5 – Paving and Finishing Touches
Over the next two days, the new block paving was carefully laid in the agreed design. Edge restraints were installed for strength and definition, and all joints were filled with kiln-dried sand. The final step involved compacting the finished surface and giving it a professional clean-down before handover.
The end result was a stunning new driveway that completely revitalised the property’s frontage. The improved drainage and robust groundwork mean the surface will remain solid and low-maintenance for years to come — while the crisp finish adds instant kerb appeal.
