We begin by marking out the exact patio area, then excavate to approximately 150-200mm depth depending on your soil conditions, removing all topsoil, turf, and vegetation to create a clean, level base that’s properly compacted to prevent any future settlement or movement.
A substantial layer of MOT Type 1 hardcore is laid and compacted in stages to create a solid foundation, with careful attention to drainage falls (typically 1:80 gradient) to ensure rainwater runs away from your property rather than pooling on the surface.
A 30-40mm mortar bedding layer is applied, and your chosen paving slabs are carefully laid with consistent joints, using string lines and spirit levels to maintain perfect alignment and ensuring each slab is fully supported with no voids underneath that could cause cracking.
Once all slabs are laid and checked for level, we point the joints using appropriate mortar or jointing compound, clean off any excess material, and give the entire patio a final inspection to ensure it’s ready for immediate use and will deliver years of trouble-free performance.
