The existing front garden wall had seen better days. Weathered brickwork and mortar that had been giving up for years. The customer wanted the whole thing rebuilt properly, along with a new raised flower bed border along the front of the house.
Ted and the team pulled the old wall down and started from scratch. The rebuilt retaining wall follows the same curved run around the front corner of the property, keeping the original shape of the garden but with fresh brickwork throughout. A dark charcoal coping runs across the top, giving it a clean finish that ties in with the house.
The raised flower bed along the front of the property is worth a mention on its own. Most builders would throw up a sleeper border and be done with it. Sleepers are quick, but they move, rot, and rarely sit right against a house. Ted builds these in brick. It takes longer and costs a bit more, but the result is solid, it won’t shift, and it’ll outlast the alternatives by years. The bed was topped with fresh soil and left ready for planting.
Across the front, the finished wall is straight, level and properly pointed. From the road it looks like a different property.
